Harvest Moon Strawberry Cake

StrawberryLayerCakeHello everyone! I hope you all are having a fantastic week. Tomorrow is Saturday, yay! Today I bring you another cake recipe. It was my son’s fifth birthday yesterday and he requested a vanilla cake with strawberries. Great idea child of mine! Strawberries are in season right now and are so sweet and delicious, of course I can put them on your birthday cake!

For my geeky inspiration this time, I used Harvest Moon again. Aside from MMOs, Harvest Moon has a HUGE number of recipes throughout the several games that are in the series. Strawberry Cake is seen in quite a few of them including Story of Seasons which is quickly becoming one of my favorites in the series. In the games, the Harvest Moon Strawberry Cake appears as a white cake with strawberries between the cake layers, a white frosting topping, and a strawberry on top. This fit my son’s request perfectly.

Sims 4 Flirty Heart Cookies

Sims 4 Flirty Heart Cookies

It’s Valentine’s Day this week so I thought that it would be the perfect time to make a recipe for The Sims 4 Flirty Heart Cookies. This recipe can only be made in game when Sims have the “flirty” emotion and require level three in the Cooking Skill. Like I mentioned in my Black and White Cookies recipe, I don’t typically make cookies for my Sims as Sims 4 Sims tend to gain weight super quickly. However, this recipe looked way too adorable to pass up. So I fattened my Sims up for the sake of seeing how this recipe looked in game.

Looking at these cookies in game, they reminded me a lot of heart-shaped jam sandwich cookies, so that is what I did when making these. They will require both a large and a small heart shaped cookie cutter. I recommend this set from Wilton.

Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I am SUPER happy with how this recipe came out. It’s probably one of my favorites that I’ve made so far. The cookies are sweet, soft, and gooey from the jam filling. If I could eat a whole tray in one sitting, I would. But that would cause me to gain weight faster than my Sims do when I make them cookies… probably not a good idea, haha.

Guild Wars 2 Chocolate Raspberry Cake

Guild Wars 2 Chocolate Raspberry Cake

Oh Guild Wars 2, I’ve missed you so. I took a six month long break from the game when Sims 4 released, but the recent news that an expansion pack is going to be released for the game has brought me back. Guild Wars 2 has it all: an amazing storyline, fun professions, an amazing community, and most importantly for the purpose of Eat a Byte, one of the most in-depth crafting systems I have ever seen. My little Asura Necromancer is a Chef and I drool every single time I work on leveling this craft up. So… many… recipes! You can be certain that there will be more Guild Wars 2 recipes on Eat A Byte in the future.

Since my birthday was this past weekend and to celebrate the announcement of Heart of Thorns, I decided to make the Guild Wars 2 Chocolate Raspberry Cake. Oh my Melandru you guys. This was delicious. Chocolate cake with chocolate raspberry buttercream and fresh raspberries on top. Om nom nom nom.

To make the in-game version of the Chocolate Raspberry Cake your character will need to be a Chef and have a skill of 375. I tried to stick to the in-game version as much as possible when making the real life version. The in-game version requires a bowl of baker’s dry ingredients, a bowl of baker’s wet ingredients, a chocolate bar, and raspberry frosting. I decided to go a little overboard with the frosting and make it chocolate raspberry (because really… can you ever have TOO MUCH chocolate?) instead of just plain raspberry.

Sims 2 Santa Cookies

Sims 2 Santa Cookies

If you’ve played The Sims series for as long as I have, then you probably remember the Sims 2 Santa Cookies recipe. This recipe was available through the Sims 2 Holiday Stuff Pack, and if you were lucky enough to receive the Sims 2 Ultimate Collection for free from Origin, then you already have this recipe available. If your Sims made these cookies and then went to bed, Santa would appear to bring them gifts (and also pee in their toilet several times).

It was always fun to decorate my Sims 2 Legacy family’s house for Christmas, bake the Santa Cookies, and then eagerly await the arrival of Santa in the middle of the night. Sure there was a chance the Christmas tree would catch on fire, but hey, the anticipation was worth it!

Gingerbread Plumbobs From The Sims Series

Gingerbread Plumbob Cookies for The Sims Games

This week’s recipe is not actually a recipe from the game, but rather something that I came up with to put a festive spin on the most recognizable icons of the Sims… the plumbob! Since the holidays are gingerbread season, I thought gingerbread plumbobs might be a fun little cookie to make.

The plumbob has been around since The Sims 1 and is used as a device to identify the mood and needs of your Sim. Each game has changed the mechanics of how the plumbob works (The Sims 4 changed it to reflect the emotional state that your Sims are in for instance) but has never changed what its shape. It has always maintained its elongated diamond shape which easily identifies it, even outside of the game.

Sims 4 Black and White Cookies

Sims 4 Black and White Cookies

This week’s recipe is the The Sims 4 Black and White Cookie recipe. Sims can make this recipe at cooking skill level four. I’ll be honest and say that I don’t typically have my Sims bake cookies as they tend to gain weight too quickly as it is, but I saw this recipe on the recipe list and thought it might be fun to make in real-life. Hopefully they don’t go to my hips as quickly as the in-game version does!

The in-game version looks pretty similar to what you expect traditional Black and White Cookies to look like, except perhaps, a bit smaller. The ones that my grocery store sells are quite large. I made my cookies smaller to reflect the size that they appear in-game.

Apparently these cookies can also be called half moon cookies, though I guess it depends on where you live. The Sims 4 game calls them Black and White Cookies so I decided to stay true to the game and call them that as well.

Sims 4 Super Chocolate Tummers Bomb Cupcakes

Sims 4 Super Chocolate Tummers Bomb Cupcakes

Today’s recipe is for Sims 4 Super Chocolate Tummers Bomb Cupcakes. These tasty little cupcakes can be made from the Cupcake Machine in The Sims 4 at level 7 cooking. The cupcake machine is a nice little addition to The Sims 4 and allows you to make all sorts of tasty treats for your Sims (and as of the Get to Work Expansion, you can make more than just cupcakes in it!)

Holy plumbob you guys. I figured with a name like “Super Chocolate Tummers Bomb” that I needed to go way overboard on the chocolate with this recipe. And that is just what I did. Chocolate cupcakes filled with chocolate chips, nutella buttercream frosting, and MORE chocolate chips on top. These things are DELICIOUS. My good friend Val (aka 8bitmom aka ValerieAnneC) visited when I made these, so she and her son helped taste test this recipe. It was a hit all around.

Coming up with a nutella buttercream frosting was a fun experiment. Nutella is delicious on its own, but making it into a frosting and putting it on a cupcake just ups the deliciousness by a hundredfold. Be prepared for chocolate overload with this recipe.

So, without further ado… I give you, the Super Chocolate Tummers Bomb recipe!

Sims 4 Signature Cake

Sims 4 Signature Cake

When Pinstar celebrated his 32nd birthday I decided to make him a special birthday cake for the occasion!

The Sims game franchise has always been an integral part of our lives. He and I met through The Sims 2 back in 2005, so I thought that making him a Sims related birthday cake would be pretty fitting. Especially for the very first recipe that I post here. Seeing as the Sims 4 recently released, I thought it might be a good idea to find a cake recipe from the game that I could use. I was intrigued by the Sims 4 Signature Cake recipe.

The Sims 4 Signature Cake looked like it would taste delicious and probably be super chocolatey (and really… who can turn down chocolate?). To further my inspiration and to put my own spin on this cake, I decided to use an idea for a cake that I used to make at work all the time (it was highly requested by my fellow co-workers) a vanilla cake with peanut butter and chocolate frosting.

I decided to kick up my original cake recipe from work by making a peanut butter buttercream frosting instead of just using regular peanut butter. I think it was pretty darn successful if I do say so myself! This was also the first time that I attempted to make chocolate ganache. I was super pleased with the results!
