Here we go guys! My final Final Fantasy XIV recipe prior to the early access release of Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward tomorrow morning. As I type this I am watching the Square Enix Live Letter on Twitch and the hype that I am experiencing couldn’t be any higher right now. I don’t think I have been THIS excited for an MMO expansion… ever. I’ve basically been watching the launch trailer non-stop… I can’t get enough!
The servers are down across the entirety of Final Fantaxy XIV today as Square Enix gets Heavensward prepped. This gave me plenty of time not only to prepare and cook the final recipe for the game this week, but also to get a few things done so that I have some extra time tomorrow to play the game.
You guys… YOU GUYS!!!! Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward is releasing in TWO DAYS for those of us that preordered it! Oh… my… gosh. The amount of excitement that I have over this is incredible. I’ve only been in this game for a little over a month now and I have never become so invested in a game as quickly as I did with FFXIV. Not only are the story and gameplay elements of the game incredible, the community is, by far, the best MMO community I have ever been in. Everyone is so welcoming, helpful, and friendly. I have also started watching tons of amazing Final Fantasy XIV streamers (and by the way, you should totally check them out).
Hello everyone! I hope you all are having a fantastic week. Tomorrow is Saturday, yay! Today I bring you another cake recipe. It was my son’s fifth birthday yesterday and he requested a vanilla cake with strawberries. Great idea child of mine! Strawberries are in season right now and are so sweet and delicious, of course I can put them on your birthday cake!
For my geeky inspiration this time, I used Harvest Moon again. Aside from MMOs, Harvest Moon has a HUGE number of recipes throughout the several games that are in the series. Strawberry Cake is seen in quite a few of them including Story of Seasons which is quickly becoming one of my favorites in the series. In the games, the Harvest Moon Strawberry Cake appears as a white cake with strawberries between the cake layers, a white frosting topping, and a strawberry on top. This fit my son’s request perfectly.
Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend. It’s been a super busy one for me as I work on the renovation and posts for Eat a Byte, but I’m getting there! I’m really happy with the changes that I made to it. I love the cleaner look of the new theme that I am using. I’ve also been busy leveling my Final Fantasy XIV character in preparation for the expansion that is going to be released soon. I actually have a couple of FFXIV recipes in the works right now and they should hopefully be posted soon.
The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim has been a game in my Steam Library for years now, however I only just recently started to play it in earnest. Back when I had more time to stream on my Twitch channel. This game is incredibly in-depth. There is so much to do that you can spends thousands upon thousands of hours playing the game and discovering everything. You could completely deviate off the main quest line and still have tons of content to play through. If you choose to download mods for the game then you can have even more content to play through. It is seriously incredible how much there is to do in this game.
On top of the thousands of hours worth of content, Skyrim also has a nice list of food items that you can find in game, many of which could be easily converted into real life recipes. That is what I decided to do today with Skyrim Potato Soup. The soup that I created from the game is rich and creamy and flavored with leeks (a common ingredient found in Skyrim). My kids aren’t very big soup eaters, but even they devoured this soup and asked for seconds.
Harvest Moon is a game series by Natsume Inc that I have been playing for well over a decade now and I absolutely love it. It’s a peaceful, non-combat game that focuses on farm life and starting a family. I tend to prefer the story of a game over the combat, so Harvest Moon is the perfect series for me.
I got my start with this series on Harvest Moon 64 for the Nintendo 64 and have played several other games in the series since. There is so much to do, especially in the newer games, that it can take quite a while to complete the game. That is fine by me though, I’m perfectly happy to take my time with this game series and enjoy every minute of it.
One of my favorite aspects of Harvest Moon games is the number of cooking recipes. There are HUNDREDS that you can make throughout the multitude of games in the series. Today I decided to focus on Harvest Moon: Sunshine Islands for the Nintendo DS. One of the recipes that you can make in the game is a Lassi, which requires milk, yogurt, and a fruit of your choice. For this particular recipe, I decided to go with pineapple. This is a tasty, healthy, and sweet breakfast or snack drink that is packed with protein from the Greek Yogurt. My kids loved it!
Hello everyone! Today’s recipe is yet another recipe from Guild Wars 2. This time I am making the Super Veggie Pizza from the game. Veggie pizzas are basically my favorite kind of pizza in real life, so I jumped at the chance to recreate this recipe that is loaded with veggies both in game and in real life. You can use either store bought pre-made pizza crust, or follow Alton Brown’s instructions on Food.com to make your own (I HIGHLY recommend this recipe as I use it whenever I make pizza, but you do need to have a stand mixer, such as Kitchenaid, to make it properly). Yeah, I could have attempted to come up with my own pizza dough recipe, but I’ll be honest, there is no way that I could top Alton Brown’s. NO WAY.
The Super Veggie Pizza can be made in game with a level 400 Chef and requires a Fancy Veggie Pizza, an eggplant, and an artichoke to make. I made sure to include all of the veggies that the in-game version of the pizza uses to make my own. The only thing that I did someone differently is to mixed the spinach into the sauce rather than put it on the top with the rest of the veggies. The results were quite delicious!
Thanks to my best friend Val aka 8bitmom I have been playing and streaming a ton of Don’t Starve and the multiplayer version of the game, Don’t Starve Together with both her and The Pixel Pirate. Which means that I have had plenty of opportunities to check out all of the recipes that the game includes for cooking.
Don’t Starve is a super fun survival, crafting, and exploration game by indie developer, Klei. Your character basically starts in the middle of no where with absolutely nothing and must survive the dangers of the wilds and build a camp and make it as long as possible without dying. Thus far I’ve only made it to 24 days solo and about the same in Don’t Starve Together, but I’m working on it! I just need to be able to survive winter, darnit! That’s my downfall. I am just never prepared enough for the frigid temperatures and murderous walruses that come with that season.
Transistor by Supergiant Games recently went on sale on Steam which prompted me to buy this little indie game that I had heard so many good things about recently.
The game itself is nothing short of incredible. The music is amazingly beautiful (I could listen to it all day!), the graphics are colorful and bright, the story is phenomenal, and best of all (for the purposes of Eat a Byte anyway) there is food! That food comes in the form of various flatbreads (including the Harvest Garden Flatbread that I am featuring today) from Junction Jan’s.
Yep, yet another Guild Wars 2 recipe coming at you today! I can’t help it. Guild Wars 2 has so many amazing Chef recipes that I want to try that it will probably make an appearance on Eat a Byte quite often. Today’s recipe is for the Loaf of Rosemary Bread found in the game. To make this game in game, your character will need to be a Chef and have a cooking skill of at least 150.
I bake my own bread at home fairly often (because honestly there is nothing better than homemade bread) as I find that it comes out much tastier and crustier than store bought so I figured I’d change up my regular recipe a bit and add in some dried rosemary and some garlic powder. SO TASTY. This recipe bread would be perfect for roasted veggie sandwiches, Italian Grilled Cheese sandwiches (something I do here a lot: use mozzarella as the cheese and dip the sandwich in pasta sauce), or just by itself with a small dab of butter.
