Don’t Starve Meatballs

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend. It’s been a super busy one for me as I work on the renovation and posts for Eat a Byte, but I’m getting there! I’m really happy with the changes that I made to it. I love the cleaner look of the new theme that I am using. I’ve also been busy leveling my Final Fantasy XIV character in preparation for the expansion that is going to be released soon. I actually have a couple of FFXIV recipes in the works right now and they should hopefully be posted soon.

Today’s recipe is another recipe from Don’t Starve, the popular survival, rogue-like from Indie developer, Klei. I have previously done another Don’t Starve recipe, Roasted Berries, which I think came out pretty well! Today, I give you Don’t Starve Meatballs (they look like this in game: Meatballsgame). The meatballs in the game are made in the crock pot and require three meat items and one none meat item to create. Since carrots are so abundant in Don’t Starve in the beginning of the game, I decided to add carrots to my recipe. I think they made a nice addition. I did not use three different kinds of meat when making these as I did take some liberties with the recipe, but I DID make them in the crock pot. This is actually the first time I’ve made meatballs in the crock pot and I was very please with the results. I topped them with some pasta sauce as it looks like the in-game meatballs have a sauce of some sort on them.

These meatballs will make a nice addition to spaghetti or even in a meatball sub. Heck, you could probably even cut them up and put them on a pizza (actually that sounds pretty good, I need to try that).

Don’t Starve Meatballs (in the crockpot)

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 6 hours

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup finely grated carrots
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp dried basil
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 of a small white onion, peeled and chopped

  1. Add all ingredients to a medium sized bowl and mix by hand until well mixed.
  2. Take about 1/8 of the mixture and roll into a ball with your hands. Add ball to greased crock pot. Repeat until you have 8 meatballs.
  3. Cover crock pot and heat for 3 hours on high or 6 hours on low.
  4. Top with your favorite pasta sauce.
